Phoenix Project
The Phoenix Project is a Fire and Rescue initiative aimed at young people between the ages of 11-25. The aim of the project is to address issues within young people ranging from low self esteem and lack of confidence to anti social behaviour and / or fire related problems such as deliberate fire setting and hoax calls. The project challenges existing attitudes and promotes independent thinking in young people by using fire service activities to develop personal attributes such as working as a team, exploring physical and mental limits and promoting and educating young people about the role of the fire and rescue service.
This is an excellent project which builds self esteem and confidence, raises awareness of the consequences of ASB, promotes team work and through team exercises and tasks encourages young people to reach both physical and mental challenges resulting in great personal achievements.
The course is one week long – approximately 10.00am – 3.00pm daily – and young people are expected to attend every day. At the end of the week each young person will receive a Level 1 Certificate in Young Fire Fighting Skills. Attending this course would be beneficial to any young person who:
- Lacks confidence / self esteem
- Is vulnerable to peer pressure
- Is difficult to engage
- Is at risk of offending / anti social behaviour
- Has problems with communication
